Albertans facing a cancer diagnosis and their loved ones will now have access to in-person cancer support programming thanks to a partnership between Wellspring Alberta, the Medicine Hat Health Foundation<\/a> and the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wellspring Alberta is pleased to launch their newest expansion of evidence-informed support programs delivered in-person and free of charge at the Gas City Kiwanis Centre in Medicine Hat, as part of their mission of ensuring that no Albertan faces cancer alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we have expanded our programming to more than 70 evidence-informed support programs in more than 140 communities, we have heard from Albertans on a cancer journey just how impactful in-person programming can be,\u201d said Sheena Clifford, CEO of Wellspring Alberta. \u201cWe built our Medicine Hat programming after hearing feedback from the local community about what was most needed. Participants are able to build community while receiving emotional, social, and mental health supports that complement the health care system.\u201d<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m thrilled to see Wellspring Alberta expanding its in-person programming to Medicine Hat. This launch represents a vital step in supporting Albertans facing cancer right here in southeastern Alberta. Our government remains committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of location, has access to care that supports not only physical health but also the mental and emotional well-being that are crucial in a cancer journey. Thank you to Wellspring Alberta and all the volunteers and supporters for helping to make these life-changing services accessible to residents in our community.” Hon. No Albertan should face cancer alone, yet many in our province, especially those in rural areas, struggle with limited access to non-clinical care and support. Wellspring Alberta is dedicated to ensuring that all Albertans, regardless of where they live, have access to the support, care, and resources they need at any stage throughout their cancer journey.<\/p>\n

The Medicine Hat Health Foundation is proudly 100 per cent local, and the official charity of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and Alberta Health Services for southeastern Alberta. Their contribution of $48,000 to in-person programming offered by Wellspring Alberta is the first time the Foundation has given a gift to benefit the community directly. To further support the Wellspring programming, the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta donated $15,000.<\/p>\n

About Cancer Connect<\/h4>\n

Cancer Connect<\/a> is an informal gathering over coffee, tea and snacks, open to any adult individuals living with cancer and their caregivers or support person offered in Red Deer, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. The casual sessions are facilitated by a Wellspring program leader and offer a safe space to connect with others on a similar path and learn strategies for supporting the mind, body and spirit. The program covers a range of topics related to cancer, helping participants learn tools, tips, skills, or strategies that will help them manage cancer better.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
