Wellspring member Sherry Meehan writes about her experience at Wellspring during her cancer journey
I have been making good use of Wellspring’s wonderful programs since being diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. I cannot tell you how much the support has meant to me. It has helped me get out and have some fun painting, cooking and just talking in a supportive environment. My husband always says that attitude is everything and I have to agree with him. Taking your mind off your situation gives you a mental break, and the techniques Wellspring teaches to help manage symptoms are extremely helpful.
I credit Wellspring’s support and education, along with a large family and friend support group for getting me to the end of the Mississauga Half Marathon in May, also with the support of my oncologist. It is hard to describe how empowering it was to cross the finish line! My oncologist said she had never seen any of her patients completing a half marathon while in the middle of chemo. She wants to support the addition of exercise to help patients manage their symptoms, reduce loss of muscle mass and other benefits. Of course, you don’t have to run a marathon to get the benefits and I know you also have tailored exercise programs at Wellspring for people at every stage of their cancer journey.
