Children’s and Parents’ Program
The Children’s and Parents’ Program brings parents and their children together for family time, for a conversation about having cancer in the family, and to learn tools to help the children understand more about cancer and express their feelings.
This is a six-week program that meets weekly. A professional leader and a support person lead the program. One meets separately with the children and guides them through various fun and age-appropriate communications and therapeutic activities. This also allows the children to meet others in similar situations and learn that they are not alone in what they are experiencing. For example, the 7th week of the program will be a pizza party!
While the children are together, the parents meet separately with a different counsellor to discuss similar topics and learn how to continue the conversations and support their children at home.
Children participating in this program must be between 5 and 12. For children under the age of 5, child minding services are available at the centre at no cost while the parents are participating in the program.
Please get in touch with the centre manager to request and book childminding
