When a parent is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family bears the impact. Wellspring’s Family Programming is designed to support the entire family through this challenging and uncertain time.
There are three components to the Family Programming:
A professional who specializes in family support is available to meet to discuss your family’s specific circumstances and needs.
An 8-week program that guides parents’ and children’s understanding of how cancer impacts the family. The program features dinner and socializing with other families, followed by discussion by parents and therapeutic play activities for children that teach them about cancer, emotions and age-appropriate coping strategies. Children participating in this program must be between the ages of 5 and 18. Child minding services are available at the centre for children younger than 5.
This online guide is available to help parents learn best practices for communicating with and supporting children.
Drop-In Program: This program requires no ongoing commitment and is especially helpful for those who are not feeling well, are in treatment or are coping with symptoms that make commitment difficult.
