Board of Directors Volunteer Opportunity: Board Members 

Wellspring Chinguacousy is a vital community-based organization offering free, professionally-led programs and services to individuals and families living with cancer across Brampton and Peel Region. With deep roots in the local community, Wellspring is entering an exciting new chapter of growth and expansion under the leadership of a new Executive Director and Board Chair. This is a unique and energizing time to join the Board, contribute your expertise, and help shape the future of an organization that plays a critical role in supporting the emotional, social, and practical well-being of those living with cancer. 

We are currently seeking Board Members who can bring strategic insight, lived experience, and community-connected leadership to our Programs or Fundraising Committees! 

About the Role: 

As a Board Member, you will contribute to the strategic direction and long-term sustainability of Wellspring Chinguacousy. You will also be invited to participate on one of the following committees: 

Programs Committee 

  • Provide input on emerging needs, community partnerships, and program priorities 
  • Offer strategic guidance on program development, innovation, and evaluation 
  • Help identify relevant health sector, community, and nonprofit collaborators 
  • Support outreach to ensure programs remain inclusive, accessible, and responsive 

Fundraising Committee 

  • Advise on fundraising and donor stewardship strategy 
  • Support cultivation of individual, corporate, and foundation donors 
  • Help identify sponsorship opportunities and build community relationships 
  • Participate in fundraising events, appeals, and campaigns where possible 

  

Both committees meet 4–6 times per year, virtually. 

Who We’re Looking For: 

We welcome individuals with professional or lived experience in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Marketing and communications 
  • Healthcare or oncology 
  • Mental health or psychosocial support 
  • Legal expertise (e.g., charity, health, or employment law) 
  • Lived experience with cancer (as a patient, caregiver, or survivor) 

We also welcome applicants with secondary strengths in: 

  • Nonprofit governance 
  • Fundraising or donor stewardship 
  • Human resources and people management 
  • Equity, diversity, and inclusion 
  • Community engagement (especially in Peel Region) 
  • Government relations or public policy 

  
We strongly encourage applications from individuals with: 

  • Lived experience with cancer (as a patient, survivor, or caregiver) 
  • Deep roots or networks in Peel Region, particularly in South Asian, Black, or other communities that reflect the diversity of Peel Region 

  

Time Commitment: 

  • Approximately 4 Board meetings per year (evenings, hybrid or virtual) 
  • 4–6 Committee meetings per year (virtual) 
  • Additional time for event participation, reading materials, or supporting initiatives
