Wellspring Chinguacousy is a vital community-based organization offering free, professionally-led programs and services to individuals and families living with cancer across Brampton and Peel Region. With deep roots in the local community, Wellspring is entering an exciting new chapter of growth and expansion under the leadership of a new Executive Director and Board Chair. This is a unique and energizing time to join the Board, contribute your expertise, and help shape the future of an organization that plays a critical role in supporting the emotional, social, and practical well-being of those living with cancer. 

We are currently seeking a Secretary to join our volunteer Board of Directors and Governance Committee! 

 
About the Role: 

As Secretary, you’ll play a vital role in supporting strong governance practices, documentation, and communication for the Board and its committees. This officer position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about nonprofit leadership. 

  
Key Responsibilities: 

  • Record or oversee the recording of minutes for all Board and Member meetings 
  • Ensure meeting minutes and records are accurate, stored appropriately, and shared with Directors in a timely manner 
  • Issue formal notices of meetings when required by the bylaws or Board 
  • Support the transition of records and materials to your successor at the end of term 
  • Support other duties as determined by the Board 

  
The Secretary also sits on the Governance Committee, which meets virtually, 8 times per year. In this capacity, the Secretary participates on a committee which supports: 

  • Reviewing and updating board roles, responsibilities, and policies 
  • Supporting board recruitment, nominations, onboarding, and succession planning 
  • Organizing orientation and training sessions for new and existing board members 
  • Supporting board evaluations and advising on governance improvements 
  • Helping shape board meeting agendas and priorities in alignment with the strategic plan 

  

Who We’re Looking For: 

We are seeking someone with: 

  • Experience supporting governance, operations, or legal processes 
  • Strong organizational and written communication skills 
  • An interest in nonprofit leadership and community impact 
  • Comfort with digital recordkeeping and document management tools 

  
We strongly encourage applications from individuals with: 

  • Lived experience with cancer (as a patient, survivor, or caregiver) 
  • Deep roots or networks in Peel Region, particularly in South Asian, Black, or other communities that reflect the diversity of Peel Region 

  

Time Commitment 

  • Approximately 4 Board meetings per year (evenings, hybrid or virtual) 
  • Participation in Governance Committee (8 meetings per year, virtual) 
  • Additional time for preparation, follow-up, and document review
