Emergency COVID-19 Appeal

Coronavirus’ and ‘Cancer’ are two words that should never appear together—their combined impact can be devastating. Sadly, this is the reality for many in our community living with cancer through the pandemic.
COVID-19 has been a difficult challenge for all of us, but for cancer patients and their families, it is an unimaginable set of circumstances. Their fear and anxiety are multiplied many times over because of compromised immune systems, weakened physical strength or fatigue. As hospitals battle the pandemic, non-essential services including cancer surgeries and treatments are simply not available. This is increasing the risk and resultant fears for people fighting cancer here and now.

Wellspring is needed now more than ever to help cancer patients and their families through this heightened emotional and physiological stress.

“The need for support does not wait for a pandemic to end, indeed, for many of us, myself included, it actually increases. During these times, Wellspring is at its best.”,

Deborah G, Wellspring Member

Our centre is closed, but we are still reaching out to those in need. We have transitioned many of our programs to online and telephone-based support. We are virtually bringing these programs into the homes of patients and their families in a way that is safe for everyone.

Our core message, “You are not alone” is more vital at this time than before. Each week cancer patients throughout the communities we serve are connecting with Wellspring to cope, share, learn and thrive during this crisis and beyond.

Unfortunately, our ability to raise funds to continue our important work has been severely curtailed. Our annual fundraising program is largely driven by major events, as such, the provincial government’s directive has resulted in the cancelation of these activities. This means without the kind support of our generous donors our programs and services will suffer greatly.

I am personally asking you to consider donating today. With your support, we will continue to provide much-needed services to people in our local communities dealing with cancer during this life-threatening pandemic. Every contribution, big or small, will help us make a tremendous difference.
