The Power of Friendship, Community and Wellspring

Sue and LethaSue Pielsticker and Letha Whyte have been friends for forty years. In good times and in tough times they continue to find the energy and commitment to make a difference in the community. Wellspring is an example of how their friendship has changed the lives of others.
Letha knew Wellspring’s founder Anne Armstrong Gibson when they had neighboring cottages in Muskoka. Anne’s diagnosis with malignant non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma provided the motivation for Letha and others to help Anne with her vision to create a warm, welcoming place that offered support to those living with cancer free of charge.
Letha was a key player in launching Wellspring and it wasn’t long before it became obvious that the organization needed to grow. That’s when she knew that her good friend Sue would be an important part of the future growth of Wellspring.
Together Sue and Letha have been involved in almost every aspect of Wellspring’s outstanding success. Both have served as Board members (Letha as Chair), on the fundraising committees that supported the opening of centres in Oakville and on the campus of Sunnybook as well as their incredibly successful expansion campaigns. Wellspring became even more important to Sue when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and became a member.
Two years ago, Sue and Letha hosted a fabulous event at Wellspring Westerkirk House with celebrity chef Jamie Kennedy. They showcased Wellspring’s innovative programming, introduced Wellspring to their friends, as well as re-engaged past supporters. After receiving such a positive response, they once again gave their time and talents to Wellspring and hosted a similar event in autumn 2014.
It’s their shared pride in Wellspring’s warm and compassionate support for its members and a strong belief in Wellspring’s mission that has kept Sue and Letha in the Wellspring family for 25 years.
