Introduction to Appliqué
Facilitator: Brenda Boychuk
Would you like to create pictures with fabric but have never had the chance to learn how? Join us to learn some simple appliqué techniques! We will learn a simple method referred to as “Paint with Fabric”, which does not require any sewing. This will be followed by a more traditional method which uses a needle and thread. You will then create a simple quilt block to practice your new skills!
Brenda started quilting as a young girl while staying with her grandmother over school holidays. Since then she has taken numerous quilting and sewing classes throughout Canada and the United States. Throughout the years, Brenda has sewn clothes for herself and her daughters has made enough dance costumes to dress a small army, and has made so many quilts that she has lost count! Her current passion is making bed-sized paper pieced quilts. She loves the intricacy and design that can be accomplished with paper piecing. She still gets together with her grandmother regularly, where they spend their time quilting and talking.
When Brenda had a bad day, she would go down to her sewing room and work on lap quilts. Her family refers to these quilts as her stress quilts as she was in a better mood when she was done sewing for the day.
