These are challenging times, anxious times. Due to the health measures in place around physical distancing because of COVID-19, Milena McWatt is offering two individual virtual forest therapy experiences to support mental health for those who cannot gather in person or feel more comfortable participating alone or need to participate from home. The first session will be Monday, Oct 19th and the second session will be Thursday, Oct 29th.
Forest therapy is a research-based practice that helps you slow down, and connect with your senses, with yourself, and with your surroundings. Studies have shown forest therapy to have a broad range of health and wellness benefits, including reducing stress and improving mood and cognition, as well as improving cardiovascular and immunological functioning.
For these sessions, participants will join a Zoom call and have options as to how to participate:
- from home, watching the live video feed (I’ll be in the forest)
- from home, interacting with natural elements (houseplants, garden, balcony, backyard, etc. if available)
- from a park or natural setting (ideal, if you’re able)
These shorter versions of forest therapy are a great introduction to the practice (in-person walks are 2-3h depending on weather) and a unique and accessible way to feel more relaxed. For more information on the benefits of forest therapy, please watch the following short video
Milena is a certified guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. Prior to forest therapy, she obtained a degree in biology and a Master’s in Resource and Environmental Management. She speak Spanish and Portuguese and loves kayaking.
Registration or Appointment Required: This program requires a commitment to attend all sessions.
