Charlottetown, PEI – On Saturday, August 22, 2026, cyclists completed their over 3,000km journey from Oakville, ON, to\u00a0Charlottetown, PEI, as part of Wellspring\u2019s Ride for Cancer Support: Pedal to PEI<\/em><\/span>, a biennial event, to help ensure people living with cancer can access free support programs across Canada.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s event raised over $525,000 for Wellspring, whose mission is to help people live better with cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and supported our riders and champions along this journey,\u201d says Wellspring CEO Brenda Delodder. \u201cEvery dollar raised will go towards ensuring people across Canada have access to evidence based and expert led cancer support programs that are free-of-charge and available without the need for medical referral.\u201d<\/p>\n

Presented by Rexall, the eight-day event brought together 29 cyclists who travelled through four provinces, averaging nearly 480 km each day, in support of Canadians impacted by cancer. Cyclists overcame harsh weather, physical exhaustion, bike repairs and injuries along the route.<\/p>\n

While the challenges of the ride were temporary, they offered riders a glimpse into the perseverance required of those facing cancer every day. Inspired by Wellspring Champions, riders viewed each setback as a reminder of the strength, determination and resilience shown by people living with cancer and their families.<\/p>\n

\u201cRiding BMX bikes and cycling has been the ultimate grounding factor throughout dealing with cancer. Thinking about returning to cycling has given me the most hope,\u201d says Wellspring Champion, William Spencer Warlow, who was diagnosed with stage two tongue cancer. \u201cThis ride, where people are displaying such a feat of endurance, not for themselves, but for others, means a tremendous amount to me. It’s so community-driven and such a \u2018bigger than ourselves\u2019 type of deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Riders reached the finish line in Charlottetown where they were welcomed by the Wellspring Champions after their week-long journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do this ride for awareness,\u201d says D\u2019Arcy McDonald, Pedal to PEI cyclist, team captain and past board chair. \u00a0\u201cWellspring does important work, and a lot of people need to know more about it. People hear that we’re making such a personal investment in the ride with time, fundraising and training. It\u2019s quite cool to see us collectively raise over $525,000.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wellspring offers over 50 evidence-based programs, all led by experts, covering the emotional, physical, and practical challenges of a cancer diagnosis. These programs are available online and in-person for people and families living with cancer.<\/p>\n
