Inside Story: Meet the Program Delivery Team

Judi Perry-Brinkert, Chief Mission Officer

How long have you been at Wellspring?
18 years

Tell us about your new role at Wellspring?
I am now the Chief Mission Officer. In my new role I will be responsible for all aspects of mission delivery at Wellspring and am so fortunate to work with an incredible staff team!  I will be supporting the implementation of the strategic vision, and will focus on building strategic relationships and initiatives that will enable Wellspring to expand our mission impact.

What keeps you working at Wellspring?
I believe very strongly in the support that Wellspring provides for patients and caregivers.  The cause is very close to my heart and over the years I have been privileged to witness the difference it can make in a person’s life.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?
I am looking forward to finding creative solutions to the new challenges that face us as we consider how to serve and support more patients and caregivers.

What can we find you doing on the weekends?
I am a hockey mom, so you would probably find me at an arena!

Favourite country or city that you have visited.
I spent 15 days in Peru this summer and loved every minute of it.  Climbing Machu Picchu was an incredible experience.

How long have you been at Wellspring?
Wellspring has been part of my life for the past 18 years as a student, volunteer and staff member.

Tell us about your new role at Wellspring?  

My new role at Wellspring will focus on ensuring we are meeting our mission delivery goals and continuing to enhance member engagement.

What keeps you working at Wellspring?
When I started at Wellspring I realized instantly that Wellspring was a special organization.  Wellspring has provided me with an enriching experience in all these capacities.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?
I’m looking forward to spending more time at all our GTA centres, getting to know more volunteers and members and ensuring we continue to seek creative ways to support more members. Knowing that I make a small difference in the lives of those living with cancer and their loved ones is one of the most rewarding aspects of working at Wellspring.  Working with volunteers has been one of the most fulfilling aspects in my role over the years.

What can we find you doing on the weekends?
On the weekends I can be found trying to keep my 6 year old twin girls busy!

What is your favourite ice cream flavour?

My favorite ice cream flavour is maple walnut.

Hobbies, likes, dislikes … what inspires you to do them?
In my spare time, I enjoy walking, hiking and spending as much time outdoors and with my children as I can.

How long have you been at Wellspring?
I’ve been working at Wellspring since February 2017.

Tell us about your new role at Wellspring?
I am now the Manager of Program Data and Evaluation. I provide standardized monthly and yearly reports on membership and program attendance data. I also support the fundraising department by providing them with reports on membership and program attendance data and our affiliates with Raiser’s Edge, our website and program evaluation. Helping the mission team to reach the roadmap goals is my top priority. I work at Westerkirk House.

What keeps you working at Wellspring?
The Wellspring mission which is improving the quality of life for people living with cancer, along with working next to my wonderful and friendly colleagues are two main reasons which keep me working here.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?
I am looking forward new challenges in my role and working more closely with the mission delivery team and our affiliates.

What can we find you doing on the weekends?
Playing volleyball, soccer, table tennis. Also, you may find me at TIFF Lightbox

What is your favourite ice cream flavour?
Raspberry /Sour cherry Cheesecake

If you had a winning lottery ticket, what would you do first?
Call my family and let them know that I have a winning lottery ticket 🙂

How long have you been at Wellspring?
I have been at Wellspring for 10 years. I started as a program leader for the Money Matters and Returning to Work programs and then became a member of the staff as a Case Manager.

Tell us about your new role at Wellspring?  
In my role as Manager, Financial and Workplace programs, I will continue with my current responsibilities (Money Matters appointments, leading Returning to Work), but I will also be involved in enhancing existing programs and developing new ones.

What keeps you working at Wellspring?
What keeps me working at Wellspring are the resilient and appreciative members, the mission of the organization and great co-workers.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?
I enjoy meeting one-on-one with members, but I am looking forward to being involved in program promotion, community outreach and finding ways to expand member access.

What can we find you doing on the weekends?
On the weekends, you can find me working out and binge-watching thrillers on Netflix.

What is your favourite ice cream flavour?
Salted caramel

Do you have any secret skills or talents?
Annoying my millennial children with questions about technology

Lauren McLeod, Manager,Emotional & Informational Programming 

 

 

 

 

 

 

How long have you been at Wellspring?
Just over 4 years.

Tell us about your new role at Wellspring?  
I am the Manager of Emotional & Informational Programming at Wellspring. My role will include development, scheduling and monitoring of our Emotional programs at all of the GTA locations. I will be traveling around to all centres.

What keeps you working at Wellspring?
THE PEOPLE! I love meeting new people every day in the centres. I love working with our amazing and dedicated group of volunteers that always make me laugh. I feel blessed that over my four years here at Wellspring I have been able to meet some people that really inspire me.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?
I am looking forward to moving around centres and meeting the volunteers, leaders and members at our centres in Toronto. I am also excited to be able to grow our Family Programming in the east end. Lots to look forward to in the coming months.

What can we find you doing on the weekends?
On the weekend, you can find my husband and I taking longs walks in the town of Dundas with our adorable mastiff-lab dog. Never a lack of doggy kisses or drool in our life!

What is your spirit animal?
My spirit animal is an otter. I love their playfulness, their love for lounging in the water, their constant need to eat seafood (yum!) and their desire to always want to be around friends.

Hobbies, likes, dislikes … what inspires you to do them?
One of my hobbies is running. Last year, I took up running and will be doing my first half marathon in just two weeks! Fingers crossed.

How long have you been at Wellspring?
I have been a Program Leader at Wellspring since 2009 and a staff member since 2011

Tell us about your new role at Wellspring?
My new role at Wellspring is the Manager of Physical and Functional Programs. The physical and functional programs are: Cancer Exercise, Yoga, Zenerchi and Brain Fog.

What keeps you working at Wellspring?
The members and volunteers!!!

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?
Managing the programs in a different way and thinking creatively about serving our members better and reaching out to members that may be further away from physical centres.

What can we find you doing on the weekends?
Going on hikes and playing with my dog Olive 🙂

Hobbies, likes, dislikes … what inspires you to do them?
I practice and teach Muay Thai and I also like to ballroom dance (my grandparents used to teach ballroom dancing and taught me so I have tried to continue dancing to keep their memory with me).

Dawn Wasylow, Centre Manager, Wellspring Downtown Toronto

How long have you been at Wellspring?
I started working as Centre Manager at Wellspring Sunnybrook (now Wellspring Westerkirk House) in April 2006; in March 2014 I relocated to become Centre Manager at Wellspring Downtown Toronto.

Tell us about your role at Wellspring? 
As Centre Manager I oversee the day to day operations within the centre, work with the volunteers,
support the members, engage with the community and coordinate outreach initiatives.

What keeps you working at Wellspring?
Wellspring is such a brilliant resource for people living with cancer.   For me every day is a new experience at Wellspring; no two days are the same.  I always appreciate connecting with the members, the volunteers and my colleagues.

What is your spirit animal?
My spirit animal is a wookie (think Chewbacca from Star Wars) because they are team-players, action-oriented and fiercely loyal.

What can we find you doing on the weekends?
From May to October I spend most weekends at my sister and brother-in-law’s cottage on Georgian Bay.  There are always lots of extended family members there to join in the amazing variety of board games we play.   And of course, being in nature replenishes and rejuvenates me – most recently during a chilly dip in the lake on Thanksgiving weekend!

How long have you been at Wellspring?
10 years.  I worked for one year at Wellspring Downtown as the program coordinator, then 9 years at Wellspring Westerkirk at Sunnybrook as program coordinator and then centre manager.

Tell us about your new role at Wellspring?
I will be the Centre Manager at Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan house in Oakville

What keeps you working at Wellspring?
I love interacting with the members and knowing that Wellspring is helping them to cope with a very difficult time in their lives.  They are always so grateful.  And I love working with the volunteers who, by their very nature, are very special people.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?
I look forward to getting to know the volunteers in Oakville, to meeting the members, and, since I live in Oakville, to a much shorter commute!

What can we find you doing on the weekends?
I love to hike on the Bruce Trail and during the summer I am at my tiny cottage in Muskoka

What is your favourite ice cream flavour?
Pralines and cream

Do you have any secret skills or talents?
My husband is a luthier and he made me a harp.  I am learning to play the harp.

How long have you been at Wellspring?
I have been at Wellspring for almost 4 years

Tell us about your new role at Wellspring?
I will be the Centre Manager at Westerkirk House. In this role, I will be responsible for member engagement, community engagement, volunteer resource management, and the day to day operations of the house

What keeps you working at Wellspring?
It is important for me to believe in what I do every day, rather than just getting a paycheck. I have seen the difference Wellspring’s programs have made in people’s lives, and this motivates me to keep working here.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?
The people. Getting to know the volunteers and members has been one of the best parts of my time at Wellspring

What can we find you doing on the weekends?
I spend most weekends playing in the park with my son.

If you had a winning lottery ticket, what would you do first?
If I won the lottery, I would travel to every continent on the planet.
