Short-term Professional Counselling – Phone or In-Person
Persons diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones face profound and difficult issues (i.e., family, career, treatment) as a result of the diagnosis, and must deal with these issues in a state of emotional or psychological crisis. Short-Term Professional Counselling delivers timely access to a professional for an assessment of serious personal issues that may require a referral and long-term intervention that is beyond the purview of Wellspring’s mandate (e.g., psychiatric intervention; substance abuse program).
The Short Term Professional Counselling program is intended for individuals who have been referred to a Peer Support Volunteer and are required to be seen by a professional for further support when:
- a serious matter related to cancer is identified or suspected (e.g. clinical depression, suicidal thoughts)
