Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
Meditation practices have been proven to reduce stress and improve one’s capacity to cope and to feel better both emotionally and physically. Mindfulness is a therapeutic technique where one focuses awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations. In this group program, developed by Jon Kabat Zinn, cancer patients and caregivers are led by a professional meditation leader to learn and practice mindfulness meditation exercises and ways of integrating the exercises into their daily life. This program is better suited to those who are familiar with meditation and who can accommodate time for meditation in their daily lives.
An introductory session is held prior to the start of a new series of sessions in order to fully explain the program and the commitment needed to home practice. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction includes 8 weekly classes and a half day retreat.
Registered Programs with Home Practice: A commitment to attend all session is required, as is a commitment to home practice.
