Wellspring New Brunswick is a charitable organization that supports, informs, and empowers those diagnosed with cancer by helping them address the fear, isolation, disruption and practical problems cancer can bring to their lives. An affiliate of the Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation, Wellspring New Brunswick provides a comprehensive range of programs, support and resources, so anyone living with cancer and the people who care about them can improve the quality of their lives. All programs and services are evidence-informed and offered at no charge and without referral at Wellspring Bannon House and online. Our vision is that no one has to face cancer alone.

Wellspring New Brunswick’s Program Leader team is a team of highly skilled professionals with big hearts. Wellspring New Brunswick offers over 70 evidence-informed programs. Each program is unique and requires a different skill set.

 

The Opportunity:

Exercise has been proven to improve both mental and physical well-being following a cancer diagnosis.

Under the supervision of an experienced cancer exercise leader, you will participate in an individual assessment, receive a personalized exercise plan and will exercise with other cancer patients in the Wellspring fitness facility, for 1 hour, twice a week for 12 weeks (24 sessions). The focus of the program will be to improve flexibility, strength, cardiovascular endurance and improve overall quality of life.

The Cancer Exercise program is open to those who are 18 years of age who are currently pre-treatment, in-treatment or within three years of treatment completion.

Each participant has their own unique start and end date.

Wellspring New Brunswick is hiring this position for Wellspring Bannon House.

 

Responsibilities:

· Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Wellspring Program Leaders Guide and their professional college

· Equipment set up and take down (if required by Centre)

· Assess new members upon entrance into the program (In Center)

· Create personalized exercise plan for members (In Center program)

· Ability to lead the participants through an exercise routine, provide verbal instructions and demonstrate the exercises virtually

· Participate as needed in case conferences/meetings with Program Manager

· Create a safe environment that encourages members to share

· Direct cancer exercise volunteers and Exercise Leaders (EL) as necessary

· Ensure that attendance is recorded by the volunteer/EL at each class.

· Refer any issues or concerns that require follow up to the Program Manager or Director

· Document progress notes, assessment and reassessment and discharge protocols as required by professional standards

· Make announcements to program participants, from time to time, based on wording provided by the program management team with respect to upcoming Wellspring initiatives or events.

 

Required knowledge and skills: 

· Be a health professional from a relevant discipline (e.g., Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, physiotherapist assistant, recreational therapist), a member in good standing with the College that regulates the profession (e.g., College of Physiotherapists of New Brunswick)or a member of the relevant association for unregulated health care professionals (e.g. recreational therapists, physiotherapist assistants), and provide to Wellspring a copy of the registration and professional liability insurance

· Have a certification in health care professional level CPR, AED & First Aid Training

· Have experience providing exercise prescription for populations with serious health issues, conditions or disease and Wellspring experience (preferred).

· Having experience with leadership of a program is an asset

· Ability to lead the participants through an exercise routine, provide verbal instructions and demonstrate the exercises

· Fluency in both English and French (written and verbal) is an asset
