Karen, one of Wellspring Chinguacousy’s longest-serving volunteers, was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. She immediately turned to her best friend Donna for comfort. Donna, a retired nurse, did what best friends do best – she held Karen’s hand, listened, reminded her to breath deeply and cried with her. Most importantly, she made Karen feel that she was not alone in her cancer ordeal.
Donna is not just Karen’s hero-of-the-moment. These two ‘troublemakers’ (by their own definition) have a lifelong history of caring for each other and being together through good times and bad – helping with kids, Karen’s mom and a myriad of life’s challenges. Coffee and laughter are their superpowers.
“Things are never quite as scary when you have a best friend”.
