Youth Cancer Exercise Leader

12-week summer position
$20 per hour

Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation is seeking a kinesiology student in 3rd or 4th year at an accredited university or a recent kinesiology grad to support the Cancer Exercise program this summer. This role is funded by Canada Summer Jobs and is open to people who are 15-30 years of age.

This job is located at Wellspring Westerkirk House, 105 Wellness Way (on the campus of the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre) in Toronto.

Required Skills:

  • Successful completion of at least the second year of a Kinesiology degree
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Speed and accuracy in completion of tasks, including data entry
  • Fluency in English
  • Friendly, professional demeanor
  • Ability to handle sensitive information responsibly
  • Experience working with people with cancer would be an asset
  • Experience in exercise prescription and leading groups would be an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Equipment maintenance, set up, and take down
  • Program material preparation
  • Providing support in the assessment of new participants upon entrance into the program under the direction of a supervisor
  • Support for the personalized exercise plan for participants
  • Participation as needed in case conferences/meetings with Program Manager
  • Support for the assurance of a safe environment
  • Recording of attendance at each class
  • Referring of any issues or concerns that require follow up to the Program Manager or Centre Manager
  • Supporting the documentation of progress notes, assessment and reassessment and discharge protocols as required by professional standards under the direction of a supervisor
  • Supporting of cancer exercise volunteers as required
  • Participation in team meetings to learn about the cancer support system and network, gain skills in working with people with complex medical conditions and chronic disease which aligns with their academic curriculum and potentially their future career as a registered Kinesiologist.
  • Supporting of research initiatives as they relate to the cancer exercise program at Wellspring
