Yoga is an ancient and well-known health practice. It can help exercise control over physical and emotional well-being by combining movements, breathing, stretching, body poses and meditation practice. Wellspring Yoga is specifically for patients who are in the process of regaining their general health and wellness, as well as for caregivers of cancer patients. It is designed to provide a fulfiling yoga experience while also transferring skills and techniques to support self-managed yoga practice outside of Wellspring. The program includes the demonstration of various yoga poses that use meditation and breathing techniques and members can follow along only to the extent they are able.
In these sessions, the leaders suggest the use of the following household props, if possible, to provide support and added comfort for various poses:
- Bolsters & Blankets. You can use pillows, cushions or rolled-up blankets, or thick towels or throws that can be rolled or layered
- Blocks. You can also use large books, large tin cans, a small, plastic step stool or upside-down garbage can or waste-paper basket.
- Belts. Or you can use a bathrobe.
You must register for these sessions.
Marlee Giannone will lead the Monday sessions. Marlee has dedicated herself to the practice, study and teaching of yoga since discovering the joys and benefits in 2012. She’s trained in the disciplines of Kinesiology, Lymphedema Therapy and Restorative Movement. Combining a blend of movement modalities, Marlee’s classes incorporate present moment awareness, breath and alignment principles. Her playful, welcoming manner, and creative movement sequencing is well suited to leading students of all levels.

Vieslav Krystan will lead the Wednesday Yoga sessions. Vieslav has been leading yoga at Wellspring since 2003, and has been studying and practicing Yoga and Meditation for over thirty years. His yoga classes are a fully rounded experience addressing the whole body in each session, with a focus on mindfulness, breath and inner awareness, creating a sense of easefulness and deep relaxation. The emphasis in his approach to teaching is to “connect with and open the heart”, thereby enhancing the experience of connectedness with oneself, others, and all aspects of life, transforming it from “ordinary” into an extraordinary experience.

Jillian Cook will lead the Friday Yoga sessions. Jillian has been practising yoga for over 20 years and teaching with Wellspring for the past 13 years. Jillian’s classes will emphasize yoga postures which can be modified and adapted to suit the needs of the participants, as well as the benefits of breathing and relaxation techniques to aid in the healing and recovery of cancer patients and the support of their caregivers.
