Be Well Speaker Talks

A cancer diagnosis brings many questions. Often people feel overwhelmed by both their questions and the sheer volume of information available on the internet. Wellspring cuts through these layers, providing expert information on a wide variety of topics, such as nutrition, the workplace, advances in treatment, depression, body image, how to cope with symptoms, and to care for oneself or a family member.

Be Well is a year-round series of presentations led by experts who provide credible and current information on a wide variety of topics.

A guest expert will lead each presentation. You will be invited to ask questions using the Q&A feature or, in some cases, the moderator will facilitate live questions.

Program Concerns
Information

Be Well Talks are a year-round series of free of charge, expert-led online presentations designed to cut through the overwhelming volume of cancer-related information and deliver credible, evidence-informed knowledge directly to cancer patients, caregivers, and anyone affected by cancer. Topics span a broad and practical range — including the latest research, nutrition, advances in treatment, fear of recurrence, , managing symptoms, pain science, exercise rehabilitation, and psychosocial wellbeing — with each session led by a specialist in that specific area. Sessions are delivered via Zoom, typically run 30 to 60 minutes, and include a live Q&A component. Visit the Wellspring Be Well Talks page to see upcoming sessions and register.

Be Well Talks are open to cancer patients, caregivers, bereaved individuals, healthcare professionals, and volunteers — because Wellspring recognizes that a cancer diagnosis affects more than one person, and that everyone in the circle of care benefits from better information. Research has specifically found that healthcare professionals are more likely to address the psychosocial needs of cancer patients when they themselves have access to education about available support — which is one reason Wellspring deliberately includes healthcare providers as both participants and information sources in the Be Well program. For caregivers, the talks offer practical, expert-led knowledge on topics that directly affect their ability to support a loved one, cope with their own stress, and navigate the healthcare system. The target audience for each specific talk varies by topic and is noted in the individual program description. Visit the Wellspring website to browse upcoming Be Well Talks and find the sessions most relevant to your situation.

This depends on the specific Wellspring location and program format. Wellspring Alberta’s Be Well Talks are typically not recorded, in order to allow for greater openness, safety, and live interaction among participants — so if you register, planning to attend the live session is strongly encouraged. For Be Well Talks offered through other Wellspring locations, sessions are recorded and made available in the Resource section of the Wellspring website for on-demand viewing, so you can access previous presentations at any time. However, the Q&A portion is not included in the recording. This means there is a growing library of expert-led cancer information available to you regardless of when you join Wellspring or what your schedule looks like. Visit Wellspring’s self-paced resource recordings and to register for upcoming live Be Well Talks in your area.

The evidence is meaningful and directly informs why Wellspring invests in the Be Well Talks program. The informational needs of individuals impacted by cancer are substantial — spanning treatment options, financial implications, psychosocial resources, and practical symptom management — and that many of these needs go unmet without a dedicated, accessible source of expert guidance. Studies have specifically found that anxiety and quality of life improve in those impacted by cancer when informational support is provided during their cancer experience. Additional research has shown that when healthcare professionals are educated about available psychosocial resources, they are significantly more likely to address those needs with their patients — which is why Wellspring includes healthcare providers as both contributors and attendees in the Be Well program. In short, knowing more genuinely helps people cope better, make more informed decisions, and feel less overwhelmed.

Registering for a Be Well Talk is straightforward — simply visit the Wellspring program portal, find the upcoming talk you’d like to attend, and register through your Wellspring account (you’ll be asked to create a free account if you don’t already have one). Once registered, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing the Zoom link for that specific session — importantly, Zoom links change for each session, so you should always use the link from your most recent confirmation email rather than a previous one. Wellspring recommends logging in 10 minutes before the session begins to ensure a smooth connection. Sessions typically run 30 to 60 minutes and include a live Q&A component where questions can be submitted through the Q&A feature. Head to the Wellspring Be Well Talks page now to see what’s coming up and secure your spot — and remember that not all sessions are recorded, so registering early is the best way to make sure you’re there.
