Navigating Persistent Pain after Breast Cancer, Part 1: Making Sense of Pain

This is the first part of a 3-part series on Navigating Persistent Pain After Breast Cancer.

This webinar will look at Persistent pain after breast cancer and its causes. In this first session of our series, we’ll unpack the science behind post treatment pain through the lens of modern pain neuroscience—exploring how the nervous system changes during and after cancer care, and why those changes can make pain feel unpredictable or persistent.

We’ll break down the different types of pain that can follow surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and hormonal therapies, and explain how the brain and body work together to interpret danger, healing, and sensation. You’ll learn how factors like scar tissue, mobility limitations, stress, and past experiences can influence the nervous system’s sensitivity, and why pain doesn’t always mean damage.

This session offers clear, compassionate explanations that help participants make sense of their symptoms and begin to shift their relationship with pain. By grounding your experience in the science of how pain works, we set the stage for practical strategies and deeper exploration in the rest of the series—empowering survivors with knowledge that supports healing, resilience, and a renewed sense of control.
