Front Desk Volunteer

Front Desk Volunteers play a key role in ensuring that Wellspring is a warm and inviting place.  For those seeking support, whether in person or by phone, Front Desk Volunteers are the first point of contact for patients, their family members and the public in general. They provide warm and welcoming greetings, direct visitors within the centre, assist with program information and registration, and offer general administrative support. 

Eligibility:  To qualify as a Front Desk Volunteer, an individual:

  • must be at least 18 years of age
  • may be a Wellspring member or member of the general community, such as a health care professional or student
  • be available for duty as per Wellspring London and Stratford hours of operations
  • complete all volunteer status requirements such as: Police Record Check, mandatory training and volunteer orientation.

Primary Responsibilities:  Front desk volunteers are the first point of contact to visitors or callers to Wellspring London and Stratford centres.  In this role, Front Desk Volunteers will:

  • provide a warm, friendly greeting to all persons who call or drop in to the Wellspring centre.
  • provide information about Wellspring and the programs and services offered in accordance with the program navigation model.
  • introduce cancer patients or their family members to the Peer Support Volunteer on duty.
  • provide general emotional and coping support to cancer patients or their family members who call or visit the Wellspring centre in the event that the Peer Support Volunteer on duty is busy assisting other persons.
  • assist members in registering for programs.
  • provide information about resources or services outside of Wellspring London & Region.
  • assist members in signing out library materials.
  • accept donations and record donors’ names, addresses and telephone numbers for the purpose of issuing tax receipts.
  • assist members who wish to purchase items for sale at Wellspring (e.g., shirts, cards, books).
  • when the centre is not busy, front desk volunteers also assist with:
    • keeping the centre tidy and coffee counter stocked
    • room set up for programming
    • general administrative duties such as photocopying or preparing materials for programs
