When we think of grief, we often think of losing a loved one. But for people living with cancer, grief can take many forms, including the loss of health, independence, certainty, relationships, future plans, or a sense of identity. Caregivers also experience grief as they navigate profound changes in their own lives and the lives of those they support.
Wellspring is launching ADAPT Through Grief, a new six-week virtual group program designed to help participants better understand and navigate the many losses that can accompany cancer.
Developed and facilitated by grief counsellor and cancer survivor Joelle McKiernan, the program combines professional expertise with lived experience. After her own breast cancer diagnosis in 2020, Joelle turned to Wellspring for support and experienced firsthand the healing power of connection, reflection, and shared understanding. Inspired by that journey, she created ADAPT Through Grief to help others feel less alone and better equipped to adapt to life’s changes.
Through guided discussions, reflective exercises, journaling prompts, and practical coping strategies, participants will explore grief with greater self-awareness and compassion. The program offers a safe, supportive space to process difficult emotions, build resilience, and discover ways to move forward while honouring what has changed.
ADAPT Through Grief is open to people living with cancer.
