Cancer Exercise Program Leader

Independent contractor opportunity

Wellspring is seeking health care professionals to lead Cancer Exercise classes.  This is an independent contractor, fee-for-service contract. Opportunities are available for our Toronto and Oakville centres.

Responsibilities

  • Assess new participants upon entrance to the program
  • Create personalized exercise program for participants
  • Work with other professional leaders and advise Wellspring staff on the creation of safety plans for high-risk participants
  • Lead and manage exercise classes made up of multiple participants each working on their own individual programs
  • Keep detailed progress notes, assessment and reassessment and discharge protocols
  • Equipment set up and take down as required
  • Record class attendance
  • Program modifications as needed in consultation with co-leaders
  • Supervision and direction of cancer exercise volunteers as necessary
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Wellspring Program Leaders Guide

Required Qualifications

  • A graduate of a recognized Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, Physiotherapist Assistant, Recreational Therapist or Exercise Physiology post-secondary institution
  • A member in good standing with their regulatory college for those professions (Kinesiology, Physiotherapy) or members in good standing of their respective association (unregulated professions).
  • Prior experience working with populations with serious health issues, conditions, or disease
  • Certification in health care professional level CPR, AED and First Aid Training
  • Knowledge of oncology an asset
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Mature, professional demeanor

Wellspring has several openings for independent contractors currently. The fees paid for in-person classes are $35 or $55 per class, for leaders or senior leaders respectively, as determined based on level of experience and expertise. Each class is one hour in length.
