Donation coincides with the 25th anniversary of Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House in Oakville
OAKVILLE, ON – November 3, 2025 – Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation is proud to announce a transformative $1 million gift from long-time supporters Eve and Peter Willis to enhance and celebrate volunteer excellence.
This generous gift comes as Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House marks its 25th anniversary, a milestone that reflects a quarter century of free, community-based support for people living with cancer and their loved ones in the Halton-Peel region.
For more than two decades, Eve and Peter Willis have been actively involved with Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan House as passionate volunteers and advocates. Their gift will ensure the continued growth, training, and recognition of Wellspring’s volunteers – the heart and soul of the organization.
Peter Willis says, “Wellspring has been the centre of our philanthropy and the centre of our passion for over 25 years. In addition to cancer being the number one cause of death in Canada, it has become the largest clinical, social and economic burden on society. Thankfully, we have been very fortunate in our lives, and this has enabled us to wholeheartedly make the decision to give because helping people live better with cancer is a vision that we share, and something we know the world needs.”
“Eve and Peter’s generosity will strengthen the foundation of volunteerism that makes Wellspring such a special place for those facing cancer,” says Christina Smith, CEO of Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation. “Most of our volunteers have had their own cancer journey – making Wellspring a place where people understand what you’re going through.”
In recognition of this extraordinary act of philanthropy, a commemorative plaque honouring Eve and Peter has been installed in the reception area of Birmingham Gilgan House – where volunteers warmly welcome members each day.
“This is not just a donation; it is a powerful act of compassion, hope, and belief in the importance of volunteerism,” Smith adds. “Because of Eve and Peter, more people will access the critical support they need during their cancer journey.”
