Passionate about the power of healing touch and spiritual practices, Reiki Master, Lena Sapozhnikov, has been volunteering with Wellspring for over a year.
Becoming a Reiki Master was a decision led by fate. Four years ago, at the height of Covid, Lena’s husband, Andrei, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Due to the nature of the lockdown and how little was known about Covid at the time, Lena and Andrei spent three long months in hospital separated from their three little children – Sofia, Adele, and Gabi.
While Lena was spending her days at the hospital by her dying husband’s side, she saw a pamphlet for a place called “Wellspring” which offered reiki and healing touch services for cancer patients. The offerings piqued her interest, however, as they were still in a lockdown and the cancer was too advanced, Andrei was unable to take any of the programs. He sadly passed away nine months after his diagnosis, at home, surrounded by loved ones. He was only 37 years old.
After Andrei’s passing, Lena felt spiritually guided by not only her husband, but her father who also passed away from cancer. She decided to learn how to become a Reiki Master so she could offer her services to those living with cancer and joined Wellspring shortly thereafter.
“I learned about channeling healing energy for people and how that can make a difference, no matter what stage of cancer they are at. It’s such an important thing to have – the unconditional loving touch we can give people to relieve their fear and anxiety. I know I’m being guided and asked to do this,” Lena says.
Lena is walking the runway at Well Dressed for Spring to honor her husband and father, and to spread awareness of Wellspring and its healing energy programs, in the hopes that she can improve the quality of lives for people living with cancer.
