When I moved to Calgary and became Wellspring's Program Director in the summer of 2007, I was awestruck by the big-heartedness and plucky spirit of Albertans. I had never witnessed such an outpouring of generosity, large and small, financial and volunteer. People from all walks of life came together around a simple but powerful belief: that no one should have to face cancer alone. I saw individuals write cheques they could scarcely afford, volunteers give countless hours of their time, and talented caring professionals lend their skills to those, whose lives had been turned upside down by cancer. There was a deep sense of shared responsibility and compassion that touched me then and continues to inspire me today. Over the years, I have had the privilege of watching Wellspring grow from a bold vision to an indispensable source of support for thousands of people impacted by cancer. What began as a single centre has evolved into a vibrant community offering programs in person and online, reaching people across Alberta when they need us most. And the best part – Wellspring is free!
