Gentle Movement (Qigong, Tai Chi)

Gentle Movement (Qigong, Tai Chi)

Wellspring offers Tai Chi and Qigong (chee gong) as separate programs and has a combined program, Tai Chi Qigong, which combines them so that individuals can achieve the benefits of both programs more quickly.

Tai chi is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for self-defense and health. Known for its slow, intentional movements, tai chi has practitioners worldwide and is particularly popular as a form of gentle exercise and moving meditation, with benefits to mental and physical health.

Qigong is a Chinese system of health preservation and enhancement. It takes the form of simple, gentle, exercise specifically designed to improve energy balance and flow among various body organs.

Tai Chi Qigong incorporates simple Tai Chi elements with the healing framework stemming from Qigong principals. Tai Chi/Qigong (TCQ) is a unique program designed originally for the MATCH Research Study, conducted by the University of Calgary and Toronto’s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to compare and measure benefits of well-being for cancer survivors. Tai Chi Qigong harmonizes the mind, body, and spirit, improving circulation, balance, immune function, energy, and relaxation for a host of benefits, including:

  • Reduced cancer-related fatigue
  • Improved quality of life
  • Cognitive improvement (clearer thinking)
  • Strengthened immune system
  • Restored and improved energy flow
  • Improved balance and coordination
  • Relaxed body and mind
  • Achieve a sense of calm and improve overall well-being
  • Physical benefits of flexibility, balance and range of motion
