I hope everybody gets out to see Wellspring’s new Randy O’Dell House.
I like to think of it — the house that love built.
Oh yeah. And a whole bunch of money.
Because of people with generous hearts, I have a place to go so I’m not wandering the streets drunk and bored and bitter.
This beautiful place exists today because of cancer — one of the ugliest things in the world.
We all know cancer doesn’t just attack the body. It attacks the mind and the soul. It’s really scary. It cripples. It changes us in ways outsiders can’t even imagine.
So … thank God for this place.
Because what cancer steals … Wellspring gives back.
Wellspring isn’t just a place. It’s an idea — it’s love made manifest in this world.
Wellspring turns despair into hope. Fear into a furious desire to live. Inspires us to help our brothers and sisters struck down by this awful disease. Wellspring turns misery into joy. Loneliness to community.
We come together to tend the fires of the human spirit. To help those flames burn brighter when they seem on the verge of going out.
And that spirit will always burn at Wellspring.
This disease will claim some of us who pass through these doors.
That’s just a sad and terrible truth.
But … while we may not be immortal, the idea and the spirit of Wellspring is.
And I’m so very glad that I found my way to Wellspring and to all of you.
