Crashing into the moment

At age 31 I was happily married and looking forward to a bright future when my world came crashing down. I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I underwent surgery, chemo, and 20 rounds of radiation. I was clear. Then just under two years later, the cancer came back, same side, same spot. My cancer is very aggressive and my story is unbelievable – even to me.

I found Wellspring while doing radiation. I was looking for ways to get back into a headspace where I wasn’t worrying constantly and could start looking forward. I joined and did watercolour, journaling, and yoga. I couldn’t believe how much better I felt. Wellspring gave me the space to focus on something not cancer related. I loved doing art – getting in touch with my feelings and pouring them out. Being creative is a beautiful thing. It forces you to be in the moment.

We all fall apart – that’s cancer – but Wellspring helped bring me back. It helped me stand up and face the world again. It’s not the same world, but it’s my world now, my new world, and am learning to make the best of it.
