Cancervive is a grassroots, Calgary non-profit organization started in 2005 by Brian McGregor. Its sole objective is to support Wellspring in Alberta through an annual fundraising cycle tour and by being brand ambassadors for Wellspring to encourage and support cancer patients and their families. Since its inception, the Cancervive Foundation of Alberta has raised over $2.7 million for Wellspring.
As the economic environment and fundraising opportunities have changed over the years, Cancervive has adjusted its ride (including its length, days and locations) to try to maximize awareness and rider and volunteer participation.
This year, Cancervive is going back to its roots, making the event a one-day ride on August 21. Based on skill and comfort level, riders can now choose from a variety of distances: 25km, 50km, 75km or 110km and e-bikes are welcome. All rides start in Banff and the minimum fundraising requirement is now $500.
“Being diagnosed with a cancer has a devastating impact on a person and their family,” says Brian McGregor, on behalf of the Cancervive Board. “We want cancer warriors to know that they are not alone in their battle. Our cyclists, volunteers, donors and sponsors are committed to Wellspring, helping them provide the best resources for patients and their families during this time.”
Registration is now open.
Cancervive’s Mission Statement:
To provide an inclusive, safe and fun environment to participate in a personal challenge that raises the spirits of the community while raising funds for Wellspring. The Foundation encourages all levels of riders to join for a unique fundraising event focused on community and friendship.
