Carma House

Carma House was built and donated to Wellspring in 2009 by Carma Developers (now Brookfield Residential Properties Inc.), as a way of commemorating its 50th Anniversary. This beautiful building became Wellspring’s first permanent home, after operating for two years in nearby leased space. It is located just minutes west of the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Members often refer to Carma House as their sanctuary, or home away from home. Many are surprised to find a sense of belonging, joy and even laughter. They welcome new opportunities of enrichment, empowerment and emotional nourishment. Many share stories over tea, bring lunch and stay for more than one program, or choose a book from the library and find a quiet place to read in the garden. Some bring a laptop and find a cozy corner to occupy while a loved one takes a program. Families enjoy our family programs where they connect with other parents and kids.

Whatever your circumstances, if you are living with cancer, you will find tools to guide you and people to relate to in this cherished community of love and support.

Randy O'Dell House

In October 2019, Wellspring expanded its reach in Calgary with the opening of the Randy O’Dell House in Seton, increasing its capacity to provide vital support to even more Albertans living with cancer.

Located just south of Calgary’s South Health Campus, Randy O’Dell House was built as Wellspring’s second permanent centre following an extensive, multi-year strategic plan. This initiative aimed to address the growing demand for non-medical cancer support in southern Alberta and alleviate overcapacity at Carma House. The project, requiring a $12 million fundraising campaign, was accelerated in 2016 by a generous gift from local entrepreneur Randy O’Dell, whose legacy continues to impact countless lives.

Designed with warmth and well-being in mind, Randy O’Dell House is a bright, welcoming space featuring open-concept gathering areas, private and group support rooms, an inviting kitchen, a fitness space, and a dedicated children’s area. Randy O’Dell House stands out as a purpose-built space designed to meet the WELL Building Standard—a globally recognized, performance-based certification that prioritizes human health and wellness. This rigorous standard evaluates key factors such as air quality, water, nourishment, lighting, fitness, comfort, and mental well-being, ensuring that the environment supports those who spend time there. Grounded in evidence-based research, WELL Certification reflects the connection between buildings and the well-being of their occupants. In 2022, Randy O’Dell House proudly achieved WELL Silver Certification, reinforcing its commitment to creating a space that fosters health, comfort, and healing.
